Blue-C Ecology is founded on over 20 years experience of services in marine ecology driven by the principle consultant Kate Northen.

We have a proven track record of producing quality work to a consistently high standard. The company is based in Devon and operates throughout the UK as well as internationally.

Kate Northen

Founder and Principal

Kate is an experienced marine ecologist with excellent knowledge of marine coastal habitats in the UK. She gained her B.SC. (hons) degree in Marine Biology and Zoology from University of Wales, Bangor. She then went on to join the Marine Nature Conservation Review (MNCR) team at JNCC, gaining valuable experience undertaking detailed diving surveys in inshore waters across the UK.

Able to work at all levels in marine projects: planning and design, costings, project management; scientific survey; QA/QC procedures; report production and GIS mapping.

Blue-C Ecology have developed a network of associates that can be called upon to collaborate in projects dependant on expertise requirements.

Biotope classification expertise

UK marine biotope classification expertise: Developed the littoral rock and infralittoral rock sections of the Marine Habitat Classification for Britain and Ireland. https://mhc.jncc.gov.uk/

Surveyor

Kate is never more at home than when underwater, recording slate or camera in hand. She began her diving exploits as a student in North Wales and has gone on to survey sites across the UK from the Isles of Scilly to Shetland, as shown in the map above.
